(2 in one day you say? I told you I need to catch up) Tues. night my brothers, aunt, cousin and one other friend of the family (all will remain nameless) and myself went to the premier of Superman Returns. I am glad this movie started at 10:00 PM rather than midnight like most premiers cause this movie was almost three hours long. Anyways, what do I say about Superman Returns… [crickets] He returned and ummmm it was like any other Superman movie… and well it was quite fun to see Superman on the screen again. Okay seriously now. Superman Returns… that’s all that really happened here. The movie really didn’t push the limits of Superman and I was a little disappointed here. I thought Bryan Singer was really working on a big hit action film, edge of your seat thriller, but really he was just restoring an old classic.
Now, I know some will say that this is just like the old Supermans and what’s wrong with that? The old Superman were great for their day, but cinema has been pushed to the limits… push Superman to the limit. I will give credit where credit is due though. Superman played by Brandon Routh looks just like Christopher Reeve and Kevin Spacey as Lex Luthor is great. This will be a good series in the future (I hope), but I was just unimpressed with the movie as a whole. It was very predictable at times. The acting was great, but none of the SE and CG impressed me. I could easily tell when things were CG and when they weren’t. Oh and James Marsden (Cyclops from the X-Men series) stick to X-Men, you are much better as a mutant 🙂
Bottom line… I give this a 7 out of 10. If you are a Superman fan you will like to see him back on the big screen agian, but you might just be dissappointed overall at the way this film carries out. I heard many in the theatre say that this was a waste of their time, and I would disagree with that, however, [yoda] a second viewing at the theatre, I will not see [/yoda]. I would rent it, or watch on TV if showed, but this is not a 2nd run film.
