Serenity
Well... it has been one whole week since seeing Serenity. I was waiting to post my review so that people who read my blog that wanted to go see it before I gave my 2 cents could go. Anyways, what can I say about the movie two words (I am liking this two words thing): Pleasently suprised. I was expected a good plot and decent special effects. I was also expecting it to really be more geared to Firefly fans. Meaning if you hadn't heard of Firefly or watched it, you wouldn't understand the movie. Well, I was wrong.
This is definately a film to go and see. If you like Sci-fi at all, this is the film you don't want to miss (Yes even die hard Star Wars fans will like it). I was taken back by some of the SE in this movie; I would swear that ILM did some of the work for this film. The villian, Chiwetel Ejiofor, did an unbelievable job and the cast of the TV series did an excellent job of briding the gap for those non Firefly fans, while making it fun for those who are. Overall, I give this film a 9 out of 10. Star Wars will always remain my favorite Sci-Fi series, but if Firefly returns to TV (or they make more movies), it will be making a bid to be my second. Yes, even better than Star Trek (I can't believe I am saying that).

Red Eye
Last Saturday I saw Red Eye with my twin brother at Cinema Center, and I have to say that this movie wasn't as good as I suspected. I guess my problem is that I go into most movies that have been pitched well with expectations of it being an outstanding movie. A knock you socks off thiller. Well, this wasn't the case with this movie. I definately like the acting in this movie. Rachel McAdams and Cillian Murphy (also in Batman Begins as Scarecrow) had great chemistry on screen, which made for some intense, suspensful moments. But, this movie became overly predictable at times, and just didn't keep me in suspense all that long. I guess in the words of Yoda: a thiller this movie was not. Bottom line if you like Wes Craven films, you will like Red Eye, but it is definately not his best work. 5 out of 10, go see it if you like Wes, otherwise wait for the DVD on this one.

Four Brothers
Yesterday Bo, my church's soon to be Youth Pastor, and I went and saw Four Brothers at AMC. All I can say is this, I liked the movie but if you are not a fan of strong language and realistic gang-like violence then this is not your film (go see Charlie and the Chocolate Factory instead). The last John Singelton film I saw was Shaft with the man, Samuel L. Jackson, in it and I have to say I liked Shaft better than Four Brothers because this film was a lot different than Shaft. Sure they both have rappers tring to be actors (Busta Rhymes and Andre 3000) but this film had much more violence in it. The type of movie is the same, but the intensity of Four Brothers was a lot different. I give this film a 5 out of 10. Good plot, great acting by all of the four leads, tense action, but the style of violence combined with the language in this film was just too much for me.

The Island
[Sigh]Movies... I seriously need to find something else to blog about... Anyway, The Island a Michael Bay production, is quite an interesting Sci-Fi movie. As far as summer blockbusters go for this year, The Island is one that if you like Sci-Fi you shouldn't miss. Sure Michael Bay is a little long winded (2hr. 16min movie) but the time just flew because it is filled with action, great scenery, and really good special effects (nothing over the top or obvious). I really enjoyed this film. Ewan McGregor and Scarlett Johansson have great chemistry on screen and I didn't think of Star Wars (since Ewan is Obi-Wan Kenobi) once during the movie. Plus Michael Clarke Duncan (The Scorpion King, Balthazar), and Sean Bean (Equilibrium, LOTR, National Treasure) are in this film, who could ask for more. 8 out of 10, very good sci-fi movie, seamless CG, great special effects, and an awesome car chase (oh and the car was breathtaking, a futuristic Cadillac).

Charlie and the Chocolate Factory
Once again... more movie reviews (sigh). I went and saw Charlie and the Chocolate Factory yesterday and I have to say this is the funniest summer blockbuster the year. If you are a fan of Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory then you should see this film, and if you haven't seen WWATCF don't worry it's not a requirement. There are a lot of similarities to the old film, but the feel of the film is so different, which was intended. Johnny Depp did a awesome job as Willy Wonka, plus Count Dooku (Christopher Lee) is in this film. The CG and special effects in this film were subtile and there was some great work with replication of the Oompa Loompas (Deep Roy was the actor for all of the Loompas). Overall, 8 out of 10 very funny, entertaining, and outright wierd film which is the way Donald J. Sobol intended when he wrote the book. Bravo Tim Burton, you continue to amaze me with your talent to make a written story come to life on film.

Fantastic Four
Wow... it seems like all I do now is use this thing to blog about movies. I need a new hobby. Anyway, the Fantastic Four movie, what can I say about it... Uhmmmmmm not much. The special effects were great, the acting was good, and I guess there was some good action sequences. I really enjoyed the return to my childhood days of watching the interaction of the Thing and the Human Torch. Those were good days... BUT I was not impressed at all with this movie. It was way over hyped and ALL (and I mean all) of the action sequences were in the trailers. I saw parts of every action sequence by watching the trailers, how lame. It even became predictable at times, [sarcasm]what a shock[/sarcasm]. Okay so with that said it gets a 6 out of 10. Typical action and acting, great CG special effects, and hey they had the wilhelm scream in it so that redeemed this movie.

War of the Worlds
Well... I went and saw War of the Worlds Friday and I am a little reluctant about blogging about it. Why, well... it wasn't what I expected. I am disappointed by its lack of substance and the plot is full of holes that you could drive a MAC truck through. Positives? All I can say is that the CG and special effects are amazing (ILM of course, did an excellent job). However, the plot was very lacking for a Spielberg offering, yet alone a science fiction movie. I understand that the plot doesn't make a sci-fi great, but the lack of one made this movie hard to enjoy. I felt like the plot went nowhere and I caught myself during the movie saying: What? Anyway, this movie gets my lowest rating to date a 4 out of 10. Out of all of the Sci-fi movies I have ever watched in a theater, this by far is the worst one yet (I can't believe I am saying that). If you like CG and great special effects a lot go see it. If you want a decent plot line and some substance to the movie, then maybe you should save some dough and rent it on DVD when it comes out.

Movies... lots of Movies
I have seen 4 movies in the last week. All pretty decent so here we go.
Cinderella Man - saw on Friday and I have to say that Ron Howard did a great job on this film, it will win a lot of film maker awards. Suprisingly, Russell Crowe didn't annoy me like I thought he would. He has now, in my book become a good actor. 7 out of 10
Mr. and Mrs. Smith - Saw it on Saturday and Wow... great action in this film. Kind of reminded me of True Lies a bit and I really liked the chemistry that Pitt and Jolie had on screen. Funny, action-packed good time. 7 out of 10
The Longest Yard - Typical MTV offering. Funny, yes. Uneccessary (questionable) scenes, not really maybe three. A film to go see if you like Adam Sandler and Chris Rock films, yes. A film to see just because... NO go see see Mr. and Mrs. Smith instead. Let's get real, it's a remake of an old film. No originality so 5 out of 10 and that's low for me, I like to watch movies.
Batman Begins - Saw yesterday, and I have to say that I saved the best for last. Christian Bale didn't disappoint me in this film. I loved his portral of Batman. Liam Nieson was great as well as Morgan Freeman, Katie Holmes, and Cillian Murphy who plays the Scarecrow. This is the best Batman movie I have seen and that's tough to say cause Michael Keaton, Batman was the best of all the ones I had ever seen. Critics like this film and so do I. 8 out of 10: Great action, good plot line and the best thing, no real sappy love interest, just action and plot development.
Well that's all for now. I am now in waiting for War of the Worlds on the 29th so I hope to get a few more viewings of Star Wars in this week. I am up to 6 and I need to see it at least once more to tie my personal record for watching Star Wars: Attack of the Clones in theatres.

Star Wars Episode III Revenge of the Sith
What can I say about this movie: everything I expected and more. I was contimplating about what to type today since I saw this movie already and I wanted to be one of the first "civilians" to see this film. All I can say is WOW... this film is sooo awesome. The music, the action sequences are amazing, the lightsaber battles, everything about it screams unbelievable. The trailers give nothing away about this film. You really have to see it to believe some of the special effects they pull off. The Star Wars of old has been resurrected with this film. This definately gets a 10 out of 10 in my book. I wish I could give it an 11, but I just cannot.
May the Force be with you.

Star Wars Music Video
I did a bad thing today. I watched the Episode III music video. A Hero falls is possibly the best SW song I have ever heard. John Williams, as always, has done an excellent job of putting the emotion on the screen in the song he composes. It gave me chills. I want to listen to the whole Soundtrack so bad, but I cannot because it tells too much of the story for me. I listened to the soundtrack with AOTC and I was surprised at how much of the movie I knew because the titles of songs give away the scences in the movie. Well... less than 2 weeks away now, I can survive hopefully.
