Night at the Museum
First of all, rumors of my website death are horribly mistaken. It's a really long story, and I don't want to type a long explanation, so I will spare you and myself the trouble. Bottom line: I am still here and I am here to stay... as long as I have a competent web host.
Anyways, enough of that, on to more important things. I went and saw Night at the Museum with a good friend of mine, Steph, a little while ago. What can I say about this film. Uhmmmm.... I was surprised by this film. Ben Stiller did an excellent job selling this film. He was not over the top obnoxious or just trying to be funny for no reason like I normally get in a film (e.g. Zoolander or Meet the Parents). Robin Williams was also very good in this film and I think the chemistry between Stiller and Williams was great. Ohhh ohh... I almost forgot about Dick Van Dyke, Micky Rooney, and Bill Cobbs were hi-larious. These 3 alone were worth the price of admission. Okay, so what do I give this film... how bout a 7 out of 10. This is a great movie to watch, even if you aren't taking your 5-12 year old relative(s) with you. The cast is funny and the plot is unbelievable, but hey it's a movie... you don't pay for a ticket for "Realistic Night at the Museum" That's all for now.

Deja Vu
Well... after several months off for no reason other than the fact that I don't have time, I went to the movies for the first time this Fall and saw Deja Vu with Denzel Washington, Batman (Val Kilmer), and Jesus (Jim Caviezel). I have to say, this is one of the most unique Sci-Fi movies I have seen in a while and I really enjoyed just taking in this expierence. Oh... and the supporting actress, Paula Patton, who looks a lot like Halle Berry, was amazing. I have to admit I was expecting this to be a good movie, and I was not disappointed. Overall, this movie gets a 8 out of 10 for me. Sci-Fi fans will like this movie, and for people who can get past the whole plot line and realize this is a movie will enjoy it as well.

Snakes!!!
Well... its been a while since I have gone and seen a movie and with work, my house, and my trip to Vegas I haven't had time to even think, let alone watch a movie. Despite that, I couldn't miss this... It's Snakes on a Freaking Plane, with the man, Samuel L. Jackson. If you have been following anything about this movie, you know that the title is what makes this film. Samuel Jackson also threatened to quit the production when he heard that the producers were going to change the title to Pacific Air Flight 121. I don't blame him Pacific Air Flight 121 is lame. So anyway, he also got the Internet community involved because the producers were shooting for a PG-13 rating. Well, that of course didn't happen.
So... on to what I thought about this film. Snakes on a Plane was so mother f****** awesome. Supposedly IMDB says this is an Action/Horror/Thiller, but I would disagree and say it is more of a Action/Comedy with a little bit of scary moments mixed in. There were some obsene scenes that lacked taste, but I guess an R rating takes a bit of work. Samuel did an excellent job, of course and the supporting cast was also good (Kenan and Kel are in this movie). Okay, with that said, I give SOAP a slithering 7 out of 10. Just enough of a plot to understand why they were on the plane to begin with, but that was pretty much it. Go see this film if you want a good laugh and aren't scared of snakes jumping out and killing people in funny, grusome ways :)

Pirates of the Caribbean 2
Well... I have been having trouble updating this recently. Oh well, they are just movies. Anyway, I saw Pirates of the Caribbean 2 on last Friday the 9th and I have to say that I wasn't that impressed. It is clearly better than Superman Returns but it is definately not better than the first Pirates of the Caribbean. I just didn't think there was enough here to make this a good film. Don't be confused here, the SE and CG work was top notch (ILM of course) and some of the sences were very convincingly realistic, but I just couldn't get my head around this movie. It took directions that made no sense and in the end just leaves you hanging (like the Matrix, but not nearly as bad). So with that I leave this one with a 7.5 out of 10. A good movie if you are a fan of the 1st movie, but just not enough for me to say it's spectacular. Others may feel different about this film, but trust me, I don't care what they think.n

NACHOOOOOOOOO
(Man I need to catch up here) Me and Bodacious went and saw Nacho Libre last Monday, the 19 (see what I mean). Anyway, what can I say about this movie... Hmmmmmm... Well, it isn't Napolean Dynamite. In other words, it was funny at times and at other times I just didn't know what they were doing to try and be funny. Jack Black plays a great Spainard, oh and two words... Sister Encarnación that in itself made this film worth it. However, Napolean Dyanmite (ND) in my opinion is hard to repeat and Jared Hess tried his best to repeat the uniquness of ND. Well Jared, you tried, but not hard enough. I give this one a 6.5 out of 10. The usual offerings of a random film, but if you are not a fan of ND, please skip this one or you will want your money back.

Superman Returns
(2 in one day you say? I told you I need to catch up) Tues. night my brothers, aunt, cousin and one other friend of the family (all will remain nameless) and myself went to the premier of Superman Returns. I am glad this movie started at 10:00 PM rather than midnight like most premiers cause this movie was almost three hours long. Anyways, what do I say about Superman Returns... [crickets] He returned and ummmm it was like any other Superman movie... and well it was quite fun to see Superman on the screen again. Okay seriously now. Superman Returns... that's all that really happened here. The movie really didn't push the limits of Superman and I was a little disappointed here. I thought Bryan Singer was really working on a big hit action film, edge of your seat thriller, but really he was just restoring an old classic.
Now, I know some will say that this is just like the old Supermans and what's wrong with that? The old Superman were great for their day, but cinema has been pushed to the limits... push Superman to the limit. I will give credit where credit is due though. Superman played by Brandon Routh looks just like Christopher Reeve and Kevin Spacey as Lex Luthor is great. This will be a good series in the future (I hope), but I was just unimpressed with the movie as a whole. It was very predictable at times. The acting was great, but none of the SE and CG impressed me. I could easily tell when things were CG and when they weren't. Oh and James Marsden (Cyclops from the X-Men series) stick to X-Men, you are much better as a mutant :)
Bottom line... I give this a 7 out of 10. If you are a Superman fan you will like to see him back on the big screen agian, but you might just be dissappointed overall at the way this film carries out. I heard many in the theatre say that this was a waste of their time, and I would disagree with that, however, [yoda] a second viewing at the theatre, I will not see [/yoda]. I would rent it, or watch on TV if showed, but this is not a 2nd run film.

Cars
Friday my brother, my roomate, and I went and saw Cars. Lemme tell ya something... I would drive for miles over busted glass to see that picture there again. I truly had a good time watching this film. Pixar has definately rasied the bar (agian) on digitally animated films. This movie was not only good plot wise, but the look and the personality of the animation was top notch. I don't know what it's like to make one of these films, but I am sure the animators for Cars had a good time. The other thing that made this film great was the personality of the voice actors in conjunction with their animated conterparts. I didn't feel like this was forced. Trying to personify a car isn't that complicated, but trying to make that car "look" and behave like Owen Wilson, is another. You can definately see the care they took in Cars to make this happen. Okay, so to the point. Go see this film... take your younger cousins, neices, nephews, sons, daughters, anyone who under 12 if you need an excuse to see this picture. Trust me, you will not be disappointed. I give this film an 8.5 out of 10. So nice, you might want to see it twice... Oh and I just found out today that Apple is sponsoring one of the stock cars in the film, you have to pay really close attention to see it. I didn't see it the first time cause I was wigging out about Dale Jr. being in the film :)

X-Men: The Last Stand
WOW... that's all I can say to decribe this movie. I have to give much credit to Bret Ratner, the new director of the X-Men saga and known for the Rush Hour series did an excellent job of keeping this movie true to form and just as exciting. I am truely speechless. To be honest, I was a little worried about this film cause the director before this, Bryan Singer, had a definate style to this series and presented the first two movies in a realistic way that preserved the most of the comic book flare, but Bret did an even better job than Bryan I think. With that in mind... I have to say X-Men 3 is the best of this series thus far. It is also the best movie I have seen this summer so far, which wasn't a hard to do. Fans of the comic and Sci-Fi fans alike will LOVE this film. Now, if you are just waking up from the a coma and haven't seen X-Men 1 and/or 2, go rent them and then go see X-Men 3. You will love this series. Hands down this film gets a 9 out of 10. The SFX, action, everything was just perfect. I loved reliving my childhood days of reading the comics and watching the TV show.
Oh... oh... and if you are going to the theatre to see this movie, you MUST watch all of the credits and see the scence at the end of this movie. It is about 20-30 seconds and it is well worth the wait. And if you seen the movie and didn't wait through the credits, go see the movie again (cause it is that good) and then watch the credits and see the scence at the end of the movie. :)

The DaVinci Code
Well... went and saw The Da Vinci Code with Ben and Marcus and there's much to be said about this film but not much to be said at the same time. The movie is supposed to be controversial. I was not supposed to waste my time and see it, and maybe to some extent I did. I do know this: after seeing the Da Vinci Code my faith in God is just as strong if not stronger. The only thing controversial about this movie is the various twists in the plot. I thought I was watching Mission Impossible. I do have to say that the scenery was very eloboarate and well filmed, however, that's about all this movie has going for it. Religious implications aside from this movie, I just couldn't get behind these characters. There was a lack of emotional connection. I wouldn't have cared if any of them were killed.
As you may see, this is going to be a longer post than the average movie, but heh you make a movie that is supposed to reveal the "dark con of man" then you will hear it from me. Anyway, where was I... Without giving a lot away on this movie, from a Christian perspective I feel this movie tried very hard to take away the essence of faith in Jesus. This doesn't work very well with me. With that in mind, this movie tried to use real history to drive home this point, and let me tell you, it really tried. Lastly, this movie truly couldn't have done a better job of tring to confuse the mess out of you. Dan Brown is an excellent fictional writer. He writes novels that use factual events to come up with a story. This is not an original concept. Look at the highest grossing movie of all time, the Titanic. Nothing about the love story in that movie was true. The sinking of the Titanic was and it was used to make this movie believable.
There are so many more I can think of right off hand that use real events to make the movie: Saving Private Ryan, Forrest Gump, Glory, Braveheart, Jurrasic Park, The Patriot, and Jarhead are just a few that I can think of. Yeah, most of these are war time movies but if I thought hard enough I could think of some different ones that use different topics, but my point is still clear. Writers, Filmakers, pretty much any creative story teller use real life events or ideas in their work. Why? Because that is what the audience will relate to. Look at any film or book and look for any simlarities to real life. It will be hard to find one that doesn't connect in some way to a real life element. Geez, even Sci-Fi has connections to real life.
Bottom line, The Da Vinci code has never claimed that the events in the movie are true. On Dan Brown's own website he answers this question: How Much of the Novel is true? The Da Vinci Code is a novel and therefore a work of fiction. [read the rest on the link]. This comment here is what makes me sad. Many people to this day will want to believe the creativity of this man and not the words of the Creator. The Da Vinci Code (film/book/whatever) is fiction. It is just like any other film that uses historical and factual evidence to tell a story. It is not a documentary, there is no narrator, it doesn't really make that much sense to be honest. Heck, Flight 93, which is to come out later this year, will have more truth in it than the Da Vinci Code. Soooo with all that in mind, I give this movie a 5 out of 10. I think it's an interesting point he tries to elaborate on, but there is no real plot here and no real emotional connection for me in this movie. If you tend to question anything in this movie, honestly seek the truth and you will find it.

Silent Hill
Went on Monday with my friend Audra to see Silent Hill and I would say that it was actually a well put together movie. Radha Mitchell who plays Rose looks looks a lot like Heather from Silent Hill 3, which made this movie better for all the fans of the game. It has also been mentioned that many of the soundtracks used in the Silent Hill games were used in this movie. Sean Bean also did an excellent job as well. Overall, the cast in this movie was amazing (really close to the characters in the game) and if they make a sequel, it will make for a good movie.
Okay, so I guess I give this one a 6 out of 10. You really have to be a fan of the Silent Hill game series in order to really enjoy this movie fully. I happened to play/watch the first two Silent Hill games and have to say that I liked watching this film, but thought it was no where close to as suspense level/scaryness as the game series. Bottom line: If you enjoyed any of the Silent Hill games, you will like this film. If you are a fan of horror films, this one is also for you cause it isn't your typical stupid scary movie.
