Turner County High School
I was reading Digg today and saw a link to this CNN article about Turner County High School. According to the article this year they had their first integrated prom. Which begs the question for me: How many other counties still have segregated proms, and why? I am just awestruck that in todays society, things like this still go on. After reading on, I find out that some of the students still attended a "white" prom while others weren't allowed to go to the integrated one.

Why? Because "[their parents] don't agree with being with the colored people". This for me is the #1 thing that scares me the most. Society today has a lot of things that are going wrong and racism is one that is supposedly "better today than it was yesterday". I disagree. I feel like it's worse because it's not as obvious. Things like this only remind me of that fact. I really wish that someday Dr. King's Dream could come true for everybody in America; the country that is best geared to make this dream a reality. However, the more things change the more they really are the same I guess.

I guess there is a lighter side to this whole thing and that is there is hope for the future. A vast majority of American youth today don't know life segregated and the future will be much brighter that way. I think the problems that society faces with racism today will be different tomorrow, but I don't think it will ever go away. I just pray that God can help America make a society that closely resembles Heaven because in Heaven, there will be people of all races praising God and worshiping together.
